Kid Mode — a simplified app for younger users.

For under-13 users, ConKarma switches into Kid Mode by default. Same quests, same rewards, fewer buttons, no surfaces a young kid doesn’t need to see. Parents can override it later if you decide otherwise.

Kid Mode is a simplified version of the ConKarma app that under-13 users get by default. It runs the same quests, rewards, streak, and DNA balance as everyone else, but with fewer buttons and the surfaces a young kid doesn't need hidden away. The home screen becomes a single "What's today?" view; settings, the reward catalog, and the journal are still reachable, just one tap deeper.

Cell-management tools like inviting members, role changes, and billing are hidden because those aren't a kid's decisions, and adult-only areas stay invisible. Age is set at the COPPA parental-consent step and the kid can't edit it. Parents can override Kid Mode later if they decide the kid is ready for the full UI.

What changes in Kid Mode

The home screen drops to a single "What’s today?" view — today’s quests, the streak, the DNA balance. Settings, the reward catalog, and the journal are still reachable, just one tap deeper. The cell-management surfaces (invite members, role tweaks, billing) are hidden because they aren’t the kid’s decisions to make. Family Shield, Ember (adult zone), and the trusted-adult flow are all invisible — those are not for under-13 users to navigate.

Who gets Kid Mode automatically

Any cell member whose age is under 13 at signup. Age is set at the COPPA parent-consent step and isn’t something the kid can edit themselves. If a parent wants a 12-year-old to have the full UI early, the parent can flip it from their own Settings → Cell → Members → <kid> → Mode. We require an adult to do that flip; the kid can’t self-promote.

When Kid Mode comes off automatically

On the kid’s 13th birthday, the app prompts them to choose: stay in Kid Mode or switch to the full UI. The default-on-13 is the full UI, but a 13-year-old who likes the simpler version can keep it for as long as they want. The teen-trust functions (Family Shield, trusted adult, the 14+ flag-and-route flow) only light up once the user is out of Kid Mode.

What parents see from Kid Mode

Same things you see for any kid in your cell: their quests, their streak, their DNA balance, their completion history. Kid Mode doesn’t restrict what you see — it restricts what the kid sees. You can run mission assignments and gift currency exactly as before.

When to keep Kid Mode vs turn it off

Keep it on while the kid is still building habits with you and the cell is the main thing happening in the app. Turn it off when the kid starts asking for things in the catalog the simpler UI doesn’t expose — booster packs, mystery boxes, gift currency for a sibling — or when they’re old enough to handle the full UI without being overwhelmed. There’s no penalty for switching; nothing is lost, and you can switch back.
