After Dark is the adult-only companion to ConKarma. Once your main-app cell is set up and at least one adult has age-verified, installing After Dark is two screens. Here’s the order.
After Dark is the adult-only companion to ConKarma, and once your main-app cell is set up and at least one adult has age-verified, installing it takes about two screens. First make sure three things are in place on the main app: your ConKarma account is signed in, your cell exists (even a one-person cell counts), and your profile shows verified adult age. If any are missing, After Dark's first launch walks you back to the main app to fix them.
Install from the App Store or Google Play, or follow the deep-link from main-app cell settings, which routes through /install to the correct listing. On first launch the companion reads your shared session and signs you in automatically — no password. Every open requires biometric authentication, and the screenshot block can't be disabled.
Before you install
You need three things in place on the main app first. (1) Your ConKarma account is signed in. (2) Your cell exists — even a one-person cell counts. (3) Your account profile shows verified adult age. If any of these are missing, the After Dark first-launch will walk you back to the main app to fix them; the companion can’t bootstrap on its own.
Install on iPhone or iPad
Open the App Store, search ‘ConKarma After Dark’, install. Or follow the deep-link from your main-app cell settings → Adult zone → Install companion. The link routes through /install which detects the platform and hands off to the App Store with the correct bundle ID. If you’re on an iPad, both apps run natively — there’s no separate iPad version of the companion.
Install on Android
Open Google Play, search ‘ConKarma After Dark’, install. Mature rating means Google will ask you to confirm your account age once — same account-level setting that gates Mature-rated apps generally. The deep-link path from main-app settings works the same way; /install picks the correct Play Store entry for the companion.
First-launch sign-in
Open After Dark. It reads your shared keychain for a ConKarma session and signs you in automatically — no password, no email, no code. If the keychain handoff fails (rare; usually means you wiped the main app or restored from a backup), the companion falls back to standard email + 6-digit code activation, identical to the main app.
Enabling Ember for your cell
If your cell hasn’t turned Ember on yet, the companion shows the prerequisite checklist — every adult in the cell needs verified adult status + explicit opt-in. The companion walks each adult through opt-in via push notification + a settings screen. Until every adult has opted in, the companion shows a waiting room — no Spice Calendar, no dares, no intimate entries. This matches the existing main-app Ember model exactly.
Adult-tier subscription
If your cell is already on a Family plan or has the per-quarter adult add-on, your After Dark access activates automatically — the entitlement crosses both apps via the shared subscription record (BE: `goia_api/internal/billing/user_subscriptions`). If you’re not subscribed yet, the companion shows an in-app purchase prompt. Buying through Apple or Google IAP inside the companion creates the cell-scoped entitlement that surfaces back in main-app /settings within ~60 seconds.
Biometric gate
Every time you open After Dark — even a fresh-foreground from the home screen — Face ID / Touch ID / Android biometric is required. Passcode-only doesn’t unlock the companion. Inside the app, idle inactivity (default 5 minutes) re-arms the gate. You can tune the inactivity window in companion settings; the cell-wide screenshot block and external-display lock can’t be disabled.
Switching between apps
Both apps live on your home screen as separate icons. Cross-app deep-links work both ways — tapping an Ember consent prompt in the main app launches After Dark; tapping a family-coach digest in After Dark launches the main app. If a destination app isn’t installed, the OS routes through /install which offers the right store link plus a fallback web view for the destination content.
