Topics you’d rather not see.

ConKarma lets you tell us topics you don’t want to see, and we honor that across surfaces — prompts, decks, suggestions, daily questions. This article covers what we filter, the two severity levels, the temporary-allow path for when you change your mind, the COPPA anti-stigma pattern, and what we deliberately don’t do with declarations.

ConKarma lets you name topics you'd rather not see — grief, divorce, body image, financial stress, anything — and honors that across Card Decks, Themed Night manifests, daily questions, Family Coach AI prompts, and Family Reveal highlights, in both the Serene and Ember zones. There are two levels: Level 1 (less of) demotes the topic but allows occasional surfacing, and Level 2 (none) hides it for you.

Declarations are per-user, not cell-wide, unless every adult opts in, so cell-mates keep their own settings. If you change your mind, a one-tap temporary-allow opens a topic for the next 7 days, then re-suppresses, with no streak or nudge to keep it on. For kid accounts the list is framed neutrally, and the app never inverts a declaration, auto-detects topics from your messages, or silently re-surfaces a hidden topic.

What we filter

A topic you flag to avoid (grief, divorce, infertility, body image, financial stress, anything) is suppressed across Card Decks, Themed Night manifests, daily questions, Family Coach AI prompts, and Family Reveal highlights. The same declaration governs both Serene and Ember zones.

Two severity levels

Level 1 (less of) demotes the topic but allows occasional surfacing. Level 2 (none) hides it cell-wide for you (cell-mates still see their own settings; declarations are per-user, not cell-wide unless every adult opts in). You pick when you declare.

Temporary allow

If you want to see content on a topic you previously avoided — say, you want a journal prompt about grief after years of avoiding it — a one-tap temporary-allow opens that topic for the next 7 days, then re-suppresses. No streak, no nudge to keep it on.

COPPA anti-stigma pattern

For kid accounts, the parent-supervised topic list is framed neutrally (“what we don’t talk about right now”) with no language that frames the declaration as a problem or a phase. The kid sees their own list and can add to it directly; removal goes through parental review per the COPPA pattern.

What we deliberately don’t do

We don’t invert a declaration (“send me more of X”). We don’t auto-detect topics-to-avoid from message content. We don’t make a therapy or clinical referral from a declaration. We don’t share a declaration outside your cell. We don’t override your declaration platform-side — you can temporarily allow at will, but we never silently re-surface a hidden topic.
