ConKarma for Windows is a native Windows 10 and 11 desktop app distributed exclusively through the Microsoft Store as a signed MSIX package, with full feature parity with mobile optimized for a larger screen and keyboard. To install, search "ConKarma" in the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 (build 19045+) or Windows 11 and tap Install; the Store handles signing, sandboxing, and auto-update. We do not distribute a side-loadable .exe or .msi outside the Store.
The base install is under 80 MB, with cell-pillar assets downloaded on demand. The app requests only Notifications, Microphone, Camera, and Network — never location, contacts, or system-wide file access. It runs no background service and ships no telemetry beyond the documented cohort-aggregate signals.
Installing from the Microsoft Store
Search "ConKarma" in the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 (build 19045+) or Windows 11 and tap Install. The Store handles signing verification, sandboxing, and auto-update. We do not distribute a side-loadable .exe or .msi outside the Store — if you find one, it is not from us and should not be trusted. The base install is under 80 MB; the first cell-pillar you open downloads its assets on demand (see /legal/app-distribution for the Bundles architecture).
Permissions the app asks for (and what each is used for)
On first launch the Windows app requests: (1) Notifications — for daily-question reminders, important dates, and cell pings; you can grant or decline per Settings → Notifications → ConKarma at any time. (2) Microphone — only when you tap to record a voice memo; never background-listening. (3) Camera — only when you tap to attach a photo to a memory or take a portrait; never background. (4) Network — required for sync. We do not request location, file-system access outside the app sandbox, contacts, calendar (the Microsoft Outlook calendar integration is opt-in via /settings → Integrations and uses a separate Graph API consent flow), or any other capability. The full Microsoft Store capability manifest is published with the package and reviewable in App info.
Auto-update
Microsoft Store delivers updates automatically when your device is on Wi-Fi (or unmetered Ethernet) and idle. The default cadence matches our mobile cadence — minor updates weekly, feature drops monthly, quarterly content bundles for catalog refreshes (see /legal/app-distribution §2). To pause auto-update for ConKarma specifically, use Microsoft Store → Library → … menu → Pause for one week. You can always trigger an update manually from the same screen.
Sign-in on Windows
Three sign-in options on Windows: Sign in with Microsoft (the Windows-native path; uses your Microsoft Account, which may already be linked to your Windows user), Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google. All three resolve to the same ConKarma account — the cell, the streaks, and the content move with you across devices. Windows Hello (PIN, fingerprint, face) is accepted as the local unlock factor on subsequent launches after first sign-in; see /help/sign-in-safer-two-factor for the cross-platform 2FA posture.
Uninstall + export your data
Two paths: (1) Soft uninstall — Settings → Apps → ConKarma → Uninstall removes the app and its sandboxed cache; your account and cell content stay on the server until you delete them. Reinstalling later restores everything. (2) Full delete — open the app first and go to Settings → Privacy → Delete account; this triggers the standard 30-day deletion grace window (see /privacy §8). Before deleting, you can export your full personal data archive via Settings → Privacy → Export my data — the export is a ZIP delivered via signed link to your verified email.
Troubleshooting
Sync stalled: check Settings → Network → ConKarma allowed to use unmetered + metered networks. App will not launch: Microsoft Store → Library → ConKarma → Advanced options → Repair (preserves your data); if Repair fails, Reset (wipes local cache but server-side cell content stays intact and re-syncs on next sign-in). Audio recording fails: Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone → ConKarma toggle. Crash on startup: send us a crash report from Settings → Help → Send diagnostics, which includes the Windows event-log slice for the ConKarma process only (no other apps, no system-wide events). Anything else: /support.
What the Windows app does NOT do
It does not run a background service. It does not read files outside its sandboxed container. It does not have a system tray icon that auto-launches at login (you can opt in to launch-at-login via Settings → General → Launch at sign-in — off by default). It does not collect telemetry beyond the cohort-aggregate signals documented at /privacy §6 and /legal/app-distribution §6 (which apply identically across iOS, Android, and Windows). It does not integrate with the Windows AI sidebar or Copilot — see /promises #3 on the no-AI-mediation posture; that line holds on Windows too.
After Dark on Windows — the separate companion app
After Dark is a separate Microsoft Store listing from the main ConKarma app — distinct MSIX package, distinct bundle id, distinct subscription, Adults Only / 18+ IARC rating per Microsoft Store §10.1. You sign into it with the same ConKarma account; the cell, the streaks, and the rest of your content move across the agewall but Ember surfaces stay in the After Dark app and never bleed into the main app. Install path on Windows is the same as the main app — search 'ConKarma After Dark' in Microsoft Store and tap Install. The listing carries no explicit imagery; only the tasteful UI per Microsoft Store policy.
After Dark — biometric gate + privacy + uninstall
On every launch After Dark requires a fresh biometric unlock (Windows Hello PIN / fingerprint / face) — not just the OS sign-in. This is a privacy contract, not just a security one: a partner / housemate / kid using your unlocked laptop will not find the After Dark app open. Privacy posture matches the main app — cohort-aggregate analytics only, never per-user behavior tracking, never trained on. The After Dark zone-isolation invariant holds: nothing from After Dark surfaces in the main ConKarma app's notifications, calendar, or any other surface. Uninstall the same way as the main app (Settings → Apps → ConKarma After Dark → Uninstall). Soft uninstall removes the app + sandboxed cache; the After Dark content on the server stays until you delete the cell separately. To full-delete: open the app first → Settings → Privacy → Delete After Dark zone (separate from main-app account deletion, 30-day grace window applies the same way).
